KALARIPPAYATTU
Kalaripayattu is the exclusive martial arts legacy of Kerala, taken to China by the Buddhist monks which became the fabled model for the modern martial arts. Kalari means school or arena and payattu is skill training exercise or practice. Buddhist writings show that Kalaripayatt flourished during the 5th century AD. The founder of Zen Buddhism, Bodhi Dharma, had visited the Southernmost part of Kerala, stayed here for a long period of time and learned Kalaripayat. Bodhi Dharma later went to Shaolin in China and there he taught his disciples Kalaripayattu. All the modern day martial arts such as Kung-Fu, Karate, Judo, Kick-Boxing, Tai-Chi etc are believed to have been originated from Kalaripayattu.

THRISSUR POORAM
A resplendent festival celebrated with a grand display of caparisoned elephants, dazzling parasols, and percussion music, the Thrissur Pooram is a magnificent spectacle merging the spiritual and cultural essence of Kerala. Celebrated in the Malayalam month of medam (April-May), the pooram is held at the Thekkinkadu Maidanam in Thrissur.
The festival sports an enthralling line-up of vibrantly decked up elephants and is marked by the kudamattom ceremony. Involving swift and rhythmic changing of brightly coloured and sequined parasols, the kudamattom ceremony is one among the highlights and is a keenly watched event.

VALLAMKALI
Vallamkali which when literally translated means boat game is a popular traditional form of boat racing practiced enthusiastically in the backwaters of God’s own country, Kerala. The beauty of Kerala lies in its serenity but not during the Onam festival when the locals indulge in some fun filled vallamkali. There are different kinds of boats used in the festival but the major attraction are the Chundam Vallam boats which are also called Snake-boats due to its literal meaning.

KATHAKALI
KathakaLi literally means “story-play”. It is one of the classical dance forms of Kerala, and is not merely a dance but actually a drama play through dance.

Kathakali came to its distinguished form by at least 17th century. Its immediate predecessor can be Krishnanattam/Ramanattam, a classical dance form associated with Krishna/Vishnu temples.
In Kathakali, the story is enacted purely by the movements of the hands (called mudras ) and by facial expressions (rasas) and bodily movements
